The Blue Snail

Family Bulimulidae

The Blue Snail
Where to See It Damp forest floor and estate ground after rain, the interior

Its shell is thin, glossy and almost translucent, tinted a soft sea-green, while the living animal beneath glows an extraordinary periwinkle blue. That vivid blue is the colour of the creature itself, showing through its near-transparent shell and brightest when it is wet after rain. Grenada's tiny land snails are many and still little studied — several found nowhere else on Earth. A find to treasure.
