Where to See It Rainforest edges and heliconia in the central hills

Larger and bolder than its crested cousin, this is a hummingbird with attitude. Velvet black with a glittering magenta throat and emerald wings, it commands the best flowering trees and will see off rivals twice its size. Its long curved bill is made for the heliconia and banana flowers of the damp interior.
