Green Heron

Butorides virescens

Green Heron
Where to See It Mangroves, ponds and the Levera Lagoon

A small, hunched heron of the water's edge, richly coloured in chestnut and bottle green. It hunts with great patience along mangrove channels and pond margins, and is one of the very few birds known to fish with bait, dropping a feather or insect to lure prey within reach. Look for it standing statue-still in the shallows.
