Cardisoma guanhumi
A big, blue-grey land crab that digs deep burrows near the coast and emerges, often in numbers, after the rains. Largely a vegetarian, it is wary and quick to retreat sideways into its hole. The land crab is woven into Grenadian life and cooking, the star of a good crab and callaloo, and once a year great numbers make a moonlit march to the sea to release their eggs.
