Breadfruit
Where to See It Gardens and farms island-wide

A gift of history, breadfruit arrived in the Caribbean in the late 1700s and became a staple. The great round fruit, starchy and filling, is roasted, boiled or fried, and oil down — breadfruit simmered with salt meat, coconut milk and turmeric — is Grenada's national dish. The handsome, deeply cut leaves are a feature of every garden.
