Coconut Palm

Cocos nucifera

Coconut Palm
Where to See It Beaches, roadsides and gardens island-wide

No tree says the tropics quite like the coconut palm, leaning over the sand with its crown of fronds. In Grenada the green jelly nut is chilled and opened with a cutlass at the roadside, the sweet water first, then the soft jelly scooped out with a sliver of the husk. Every part of the tree is put to use.
