Didelphis marsupialis
The manicou is the Caribbean's only marsupial, a pouched relative of the kangaroo carrying its young as it forages by night. Pointed of face and prehensile of tail, it is a resourceful survivor of forest, farm and even town. Deeply woven into local folklore, it is a creature every Grenadian knows by name and most visitors never glimpse, since it keeps strictly to the dark.
