Where to See It Roadsides and open ground island-wide, ablaze May to July

It is well named. For a few glorious weeks in early summer the flamboyant throws out a canopy of vivid scarlet and orange so dense it can hide the leaves entirely. The fern-like foliage and long woody seed pods are handsome the rest of the year, but it is the summer fire that stops traffic. A tree in full flower against a blue Grenadian sky is one of the great sights of the Caribbean.
