A blaze of orange and red, the pride of Barbados carries ruffled flowers with long scarlet stamens that flicker like flame, drawing in butterflies and hummingbirds. A hardy, sun-loving shrub, it flowers right through the heat when little else dares. Also known as the peacock flower, it is one of the great showpieces of a Caribbean garden.
